What is RSS?
Posted by - NA - on 07 November 2006 08:06 PM

RSS is a technology that is normally used to publish syndicated content such as news and audio feeds from a RSS distribution website.

It is a method used by webmasters to automatically update content on their website without having to make any changes. When a distribution website updates its news or audio content, the feed, including titles, descriptions and links are automatically updated on all websites displaying their RSS feed.

RSS allows a Linkworth partner to insert a SSI (Server Side Includes) or a little snippet of code into a specific region (table, cell, div, etc.) of their website to automatically display Linkworth Ads that they have approved throught their account. With RSS, there is no need for manual website updates once the code snippet has been added to the partner website.

When should RSS be used on a partner website?

RSS is beneficial for advertisers who have static pages but require dynamic content. For example, a partner who's website is static may utilize .htm and .html pages, which do not allow for SSI (Server Side Includes), such as pages ending with extensions like .php, .asp or .shtml.

Dynamic content would include Linkworth products such as Single URL Rotating Ads (SURA) and Multi-URL Rotating Ads (MURA).

The Linkworth RSS publishing method can be utilized for all page extensions, including .htm, .html, .php, .asp and .shtml.
